What prostheses does Silobionic make?

Silobionic Clinical & Fabrication Team · · 5 min read

A below-knee prosthesis with a silicone cover, next to the other leg
Short answer

Silobionic makes custom silicone prostheses. From a single fingertip to a hand, forearm, foot or ear, each one is shaped from your own body and focuses on restoring how you look. We also make silicone covers for functional below-knee prostheses and supply the 3D titanium functional finger by Point Designs (USA) as its exclusive distributor in Korea.

What do we make for each part of the body?

What guides the way we make them?

Our aim is not a prosthesis that hides, but one that looks natural even when it is seen. So instead of choosing from set shapes, we build each one from scratch around one person.

  • Shape — we take a mould of your other hand, foot or ear so the prosthesis follows your own shape and proportions.
  • Skin tone — an E-SKIN scanner (SPECTROMATCH, UK) measures your skin tone digitally, and we mix custom pigments from that reading.
  • Nails — made with our patented nail-making method.

How is a prosthesis made?

The standard process is three visits. At the first, we talk through your needs, take moulds of your affected area and your other side, and measure your skin tone. At the second, you try a check socket (a temporary trial socket) so we can check for pressure points, alignment and comfort and adjust anything that needs it. At the third, you receive your finished prosthesis.

For weight-bearing areas such as the leg, we also look at your weight, activity level and walking habits before deciding on the set-up. From consultation to delivery takes about 4–6 weeks, or 1–2 weeks with express production, depending on your affected area and the product.

Can a functional leg prosthesis look natural too?

Yes. A functional below-knee prosthesis often has its tube and components on show. Once the prosthesis itself is complete, we can make a separate silicone cosmetic cover to fit over it, adding the shape and skin tone of a leg while leaving the way it walks unchanged. The cover is made to be waterproof.

Is a good prosthesis decided by the brand?

A product name or brand is just one reference point. Two people with the same loss can need quite different things, depending on their body, their work and how active they are. That is why our consultations start not only with your affected area but with your job, your hobbies and what you most want to do again. There is one test: is it made to fit your body, and can you wear it comfortably for a long time?

What happens after delivery?

Silicone prostheses can wear with daily use. We provide after-sales support while you use your prosthesis, and if a repair is not possible we will guide you through a remake. We keep your production records, so adjustments and remakes do not start from scratch.

Frequently asked questions

Does Silobionic make functional prostheses?

Our focus is custom silicone prostheses that restore appearance. Where a finger has been completely lost and grip is needed, we supply the 3D titanium functional finger by Point Designs (USA) as its exclusive distributor in Korea.

I already use a functional leg prosthesis. Can it look more natural?

Yes. Once the below-knee prosthesis is complete, we can make a separate silicone cover to fit over it, adding the shape and skin tone of a leg without changing how it works.

How do you decide which product is right for me?

We ask about your affected area, your work, your hobbies and what you want to do again, then suggest the product and set-up that suit you. You can start by sending us a photo of your affected area.

How long does it take?

Fabrication alone takes 7–10 days for a finger and about 15 days for a full hand. From consultation to delivery it takes about 4–6 weeks over three standard visits, or 1–2 weeks with express production.

What if something goes wrong after delivery?

We provide after-sales support, and if a repair is not possible we guide you through a remake. Your records are kept, so it does not start from zero.
