Lost the tip of your thumb? Can a finger prosthesis be ready before your wedding?

If you have lost the top joint of your thumb, a silicone fingertip prosthesis can restore its length and nail shape. Our customer wanted to wear it to family gatherings and the wedding itself, so we brought the schedule forward, and for a day full of photos we suggested wearing a ring over the edge. The standard process takes about 4–6 weeks from consultation to delivery; express production takes 1–2 weeks.
Why did our customer come to us?
Our customer had lost the top joint of one thumb and was getting married. Before wedding preparations began in earnest, they wanted to wear the prosthesis when the two families first met, so we brought the production schedule forward to meet that date.

How is a thumb-tip prosthesis made?
- Casting — we take a mould of the other thumb, carrying over the finger shape, nail shape and knuckle creases.
- Skin tone — an E-SKIN scanner (SPECTROMATCH, UK) measures your skin tone digitally, so we can match the different tones of the back of the hand and the palm, the nail colour, and details such as visible veins or moles.
- Nail — made with our patented nail-making method.
- Material — medical-grade solid silicone that can be washed and kept clean.
- Fit — held on by vacuum suction, so it stays on as you move your thumb.
What is compared at the check-socket stage?
At the check-socket stage (a temporary trial fitting before the final prosthesis), we placed the trial thumb next to the other thumb to compare length and thickness, then checked how it felt to wear. Every piece of feedback from our customer went into the final work.

What about the edge on a day full of photos?
The edge, or trim line, is where the prosthesis ends. We make it thin, but on a day like a wedding, when hands are photographed up close, it can still be on your mind. We explained in advance that a ring worn over the edge hides the join and makes it look even more natural.

We take every before-and-after under the same conditions, with a standard colour chart and no retouching. We aim for a result that is difficult to tell apart from a real thumb, but results vary from person to person.
Have a fixed date? How early should you start?
| Option | Time |
|---|---|
| Standard process | Three visits, about 4–6 weeks from consultation to delivery |
| Express production | 1–2 weeks |
| Fabrication only — finger | 7–10 days |
Whether express production suits your case depends on your affected area and the product. If you have a fixed date, such as a wedding or family event, tell us at your first consultation and we will be honest about what is possible. If you are travelling to Korea, we confirm your schedule in an online consultation before you book.
There are usually three visits: a consultation with casting and skin-tone measurement, a check-socket fitting, and delivery of the finished prosthesis with guidance on use and care.
What about aftercare?
Silicone prostheses can wear with daily use. We provide after-sales support while you use your prosthesis, and if a repair is not possible we will guide you through a remake. Because your production records are kept, a future remake does not start from scratch.
Frequently asked questions
Can you make a prosthesis if I have only lost the tip of my thumb?
Yes. Even when only the top joint is lost, a silicone fingertip prosthesis can restore the length and nail shape of your thumb.
Can it be ready for a wedding or other fixed date?
The standard process takes about 4–6 weeks from consultation to delivery, and express production takes 1–2 weeks. Whether express production suits your case depends on your affected area and the product, so tell us your date at the first consultation.
Will the edge show in photos?
We make the edge thin, and on days when your hands will be photographed up close, a ring worn over it hides the join.
How do you match the nail and skin tone?
We shape the prosthesis from a mould of your other thumb and measure your skin tone digitally with E-SKIN to mix the pigments. The nail is made with our patented nail-making method.
